On 22 May 2015, Gaulitana: A Festival of Music presented a one-night, full-scale staging of Verdi’s Rigoletto at Teatru tal-Opra Aurora in Victoria (Gozo). Enrico Castiglione directed (also set design) with costumes by Sonia Cammarata; Colin Attard led the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Gaulitanus Choir. The international cast featured Piero Terranova (Rigoletto), Giorgio Casciarri (Il Duca di Mantova), Natalia Roman (Gilda), Emanuele Cordaro (Sparafucile) and Agata Bienkowska (Maddalena).

About the work

Verdi’s Rigoletto (1851) sets Francesco Maria Piave’s libretto after Victor Hugo’s Le roi s’amuse.
A dark study of power, vengeance and paternal love, it’s famed for the Duke’s hit aria “La donna è mobile”
and the Act III quartet “Bella figlia dell’amore.”
