About the Opera.
Premiered in 1904, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly follows Cio-Cio-San, a young geisha whose faith in a fleeting marriage to U.S. naval officer Pinkerton leads to sacrifice and tragedy.
The score blends delicate lyricism with dramatic set-pieces, including the Humming Chorus and Butterfly’s final scene.
