About the Opera.
Gluck’s L’Île de Merlin (Le monde renversé, 1758) is an opéra comique that plays with the commedia dell’arte tradition:
characters such as Pierrot and Scapin tumble through a topsy-turvy “island of Merlin” where social roles flip and folly rules.
The music balances elegant French style with theatrical wit and ensemble sparkle.
