Donizetti’s evergreen comedy arrived in the Basque Country and Aragón as a joint venture between Ópera Aragón and Opus Lírica, designed to re-energise operatic life in both cities. Highlights included hometown favorite Carlos Chausson as Dulcamara, Ainhoa Garmendia / María Eugenia Boix alternating as Adina, Gustavo De Gennaro as Nemorino, and baritone Piero Terranova as the swaggering sergeant Belcore. Andrea Albertin conducted Opus Lírica’s chorus and orchestra in Giulio Ciabatti’s production. Performances took place at the Kursaal in San Sebastián (19 & 21 April 2014) and the Teatro Principal in Zaragoza (29 April & 1 May 2014).
