About the Opera.
Premiered in 1853, Verdi’s La Traviata remains one of the most beloved operas in the repertoire.
Based on Alexandre Dumas fils’ La Dame aux camélias, the story follows the courtesan Violetta Valéry as she sacrifices her love for Alfredo Germont in a tragic act of renunciation.
The score combines tender lyricism with dramatic realism, representing a turning point in Verdi’s mature style.
