Gaetano Donizetti’s comic masterpiece returned to Rome’s Teatro Costanzi in May 2003 for eight performances under maestro Antonino Fogliani. Italo Nunziata’s lively staging—an Opera di Roma presentation based on a Teatro La Fenice production—was framed by Pasquale Grossi’s period sets and costumes. Piero Terranova shared the role of the scheming Dottor Malatesta across the run, opposite alternating Norinas (Inva Mula/Mariola Cantarero), Ernestos (Antonino Siragusa/Antonis Koroneos), and title-role basses (Alfonso Antoniozzi/Luciano Di Pasquale).
