About the Opera.
Bellini’s Beatrice di Tenda (1833, libretto by Felice Romani) dramatizes the downfall of Beatrice Lascaris di Tenda, wife of Filippo Maria Visconti.
Accused of adultery with Orombello and betrayed by Agnese del Maino’s intrigue, Beatrice is condemned and executed—one of Bellini’s darkest lyric tragedies.
