About the Opera.
Premiered in 1891, Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz is a lyrical comedy set in Alsace. The story follows the wealthy bachelor Fritz Kobus,
whose friend Rabbi David gently engineers a romance with Suzel — culminating in the beloved “Cherry Duet.” Graceful orchestration, pastoral color,
and intimate scale make it a frequent showcase for warm, bel canto-inflected singing.
