About the Opera.
Oedipus rex (1927) is Stravinsky’s “opera-oratorio” in Latin after Sophocles, with a text by Jean Cocteau (Latin version by Jean Daniélou).
The drama unfolds with ritual intensity: a plague-stricken Thebes, the king’s quest for truth, and the tragic recognition that fulfills the oracle’s prophecy.
